In 1915, Sir Ernest Shackelton and his crew of the Endurance spent over a year and a half stuck in Antarctic ice and finally a few men made a dramatic open ocean crossing in a small boat to seek rescue. Only a few lives were lost despite facing extraordinary adversity and cold. The 2020 Shackleton salutes Shackleton and the crew of the Endurance for extraordinary courage. One participant selected by random draw will receive the Shackleton “Courage to Conquer Adversity” Award (see attached) but all participants will have earned an inner badge of courage.
